The description “blue” doesn’t do this selection justice. Pinus koraiensis, Korean pines, have very thick, long needles with a silver blue color, ‘Morris Blue’ has a rich blue that captures light and creates a lustrous finish of blues, yellows, and silvers.
Korean pines are new to the United States landscape but have been used in Europe since the 1800s and, of course, in their native habitat in Korea and Japan for centuries. After seeing the needles which seem like they are almost made from rubber and the distinct color, you’ll see why they will become so popular in the U.S..
‘Morris Blue’ was selected at Morris Arboretum in Pennsylvania for its outstanding color and form. This pine is perfect used as a backdrop of rich blue color in the garden.
An underused tree, Pinus koraiensis ‘Morris Blue’ was a great selection by Morris Arboretum, and it will be a great selection for your garden as well.
